Does Web2MD get the YouTube transcript?

Yes — with the browser extension. Open the video and click the Web2MD icon: it reads the captions from the page you are already watching and returns the full transcript as Markdown, split by the video's official chapters and with [mm:ss] timestamps you can keep or strip in Settings. Pasting a bare URL into the web app returns only the title, description, channel, stats, and top comments — YouTube blocks transcript requests that do not come from a real browser session, so the extension is required for captions.

How do I summarize a YouTube video with ChatGPT?

Open the video with the Web2MD extension installed and click the icon (or press Alt+M) to get the transcript as Markdown, organised under the video's own chapter headings. Paste that into ChatGPT or Claude and ask for a summary — the model reads the actual spoken content instead of trying, and failing, to watch the video from a bare link. Turning timestamps off in Settings gives the model cleaner text and uses fewer tokens.
