Alternative to Obsidian Web Clipper
The clip you take is the clip you keep
Obsidian Web Clipper is great until it isn't — silent data loss, broken Reddit threads, paywalled pages, and YouTube transcript breakage every time the UI updates. Web2MD never loses your clip, has 20+ smart extractors, and works on every site Web Clipper struggles with.

Why switch to Web2MD
No silent data loss, ever
Web2MD always copies your converted Markdown to clipboard before attempting to open Obsidian. If anything goes wrong — dialog cancelled, Obsidian closed, URL too long — your work is preserved.
20+ extractors that don't break
Reddit threads, X status pages, YouTube transcripts, Hacker News, arXiv, Wikipedia, Stack Overflow — each has a dedicated extractor maintained against the live site, not a brittle template.
Works beyond Obsidian
Save to Notion, send to Claude/ChatGPT/Gemini, export to NotebookLM, push to your own API endpoint — Web2MD treats Obsidian as one destination among many.
Common questions
Can I keep using Obsidian?▼
Yes — Web2MD opens Obsidian via the official obsidian:// URI. You can configure your default vault in settings, and clips are saved as proper Markdown files (with YAML frontmatter) just like Web Clipper does.
What about my custom Web Clipper templates?▼
Web2MD supports per-domain templates. Paste your selectors and Web2MD will use them when extracting. We're shipping a one-click import for Web Clipper templates in v1.2.
Is the data loss bug really that common?▼
Issue #828 has been open for months. The "cancel dialog → lose data" path triggers any time you change your mind about which vault to save to.
